GUIDELINES

  • Arrival: Any time after 8:30 am. Please aim to arrive by 9am so we have time to chat, use the restroom, eat, and have our race meeting at 9:30. If we’re all ready to go sooner than 10am we’ll start early.
  • The Race Meeting is important for this one- we review general information about the woods, trail markings, provide RD contact info in case of emergencies, etc.
  • We hand out three(3) sets of clue packets. Three RDs means three sets of clues (we don’t see the other RD’s work until race day so we have some fun too!) You will have at least 15 minutes to copy any remaining information you need from the master map as you start to decipher clues.
  • RDs will assign your page number and your starting RD clue. You must start with Book 1 of those RD’s clues, AFTER that you can skip around in and between clues as much as you want.
  •  If you come across a book without your page number, try to get a page number similar but that isn’t in use (like 1-9 and anything over 100)(for example, if you have 17 but that’s missing, take 117, 217 or 7 instead.)
  • You can go solo or as a team sharing one page number. You must Stay with your teammate(s) at all times, unless one person decides to drop from the course. The remaining person may continue on.
  • You can travel with a partner, each having your own page number. This arrangement gives you the ability to split up should you choose, but you are each responsible for gathering your own pages. Partners will start at the same time with the same clue, but may go their separate ways at any time.
  • Collecting a page is your proof that you found the book. When you’ve collected your page, please rehide the book well for the next person.
  • Partnering up on the course is permitted, but we encourage you to experience some of your adventure solo.
  • Two participants/teams will be sent out at a time, with different clues to start with, ~10 minutes apart.
  • Again, Be discrete when retrieving/re-hiding books. For one, you don’t want to give anything away to another racer! We also want to avoid someone not in the event, moving or removing a book (this has happened!). RDs collect books and remove race ribbons shortly after the race.
  • You can text or Facebook message us if you need or want to. We have had better luck with Facebook messenger than txt for some reason.=
  • You can drive to the Fox Forest Parking area if you want to.(⅓ mile)
