GENERAL TRAIL INFO
Ridge Trail: Is a long continuous trail in Fox Forest.
Be sure you know which section the clue refers
to. It has a White blaze with Red center
Other Trails: White and or Yellow Blazes
Blue forest boundary, Red forest corner boundary
Take care when reading clues and note “Road” vs. “Trail,” both exist and they are two distinct different places. For example, Mud Pond Road is NOT the same as Mud Pond Trail.
“Roads” in Fox Forest are not blazed, but are usually wide forest road/double track trails that are easy to follow.
Fox is a working forest(logging and tree studies), meaning there will be a lot of random ribbons(blue, orange, pink, ect) and markings that may distract you. We try to use distinct ribbons (patterns and colors) on occasion to lessen confusion.
Clues will have an indication of difficulty. Green/easy. Blue/intermediate. Black/difficult. *One RD’s opinion of what is easy vs difficult may vary greatly from another RD’s.*
Fox Forest is a public forest used by hikers, dog-walkers, bikers, horse riders, and more. Please be respectful of everyone that is out enjoying the woods. Please be discreet when finding and re-hiding books(And try not to startle people on the trail when you stumble out of the trees!)
Some clues may require a compass. Declination is -14 degrees... just something to consider, since a physical compass and a phone compass might vary.
